The photos in this collection were taken in the University District neighborhood of Seattle on October 28, 2013. The buildings shown are owned by the University of Washington Seattle unless otherwise noted. The following photos were taken in the Picnic Point CDP and the former Paine Field-Lake Stickney CDP. In 2010, the renamed Lake Stickney CDP was shrunk and no longer covers the Paine Field, Fairmount, Mariner, and Emander areas. The uncovered areas are currently not part of a CDP, so those areas are labeled under the old CDP name on this website. The Picnic Point CDP and Fairmount are proposed to be annexed by Mukilteo. All photos were taken on October 27, 2013. The projects shown here are:

Mountlake Terrace currently has a town center plan which involves turning the area along 56th Avenue West (“Main Street”) into a mixed-use urban center. The current area mainly consists of one-story 1950s ramblers and small commercial buildings, and the city is encouraging the building of multi-story residential buildings. These new buildings are largely replacing the common ramblers. I will be using the word “rambler” a fair amount here. The following photos were taken in Mountlake Terrace on October 26, 2013. The projects featured on this page are ordered from south to north along 56th Ave W. The projects shown here are:
Portage Bay Vista forms part of a view corridor on the University of Washington Seattle campus, located between NE Pacific Street and NE Boat Street/Columbia Road. The view corridor stretches from the Physics/Astronomy Building to the northeast, to Portage Bay to the southwest. The university has proposed an underground Animal Research and Care Facility under the north end of Portage Bay Vista. Recent news has the building’s cost being higher than expected, and there is controversy over spending extra money to put a building underground to preserve views. The following photos are of three different large project sites being developed in the North Lynnwood Census-Designated Place, an area north of Lynnwood and inside Lynnwood’s urban growth area. All photos were taken on September 13, 2013. The projects shown here are:

While taking photos of buildings under construction in Seattle’s Southlake (South Lake Union) and Cascade neighborhoods, I found a street fair called the South Lake Union Block Party. The fair was located on John St between 9th Ave N and Westlake Ave N, two adjacent parking lots, and Denny Playfield. This group of photos were taken on August 9, 2013 during the time the fair was officially opening. |
